8:30 PM Variance/Special Permit Request
Andres Romano
30 Lake Shore Drive
R24-C-11

Mr. Romano has had a shed constructed, along with a deck connecting stairs to a new entrance door to the second floor. Work was stopped after complaints were received regarding zoning approval for the project.

Abutters present: Michael Colavecchio and Marie Colavecchio Lake Shore Drive, Tim Geraghty, Laurie Romano, Ellen Dymon 28 and 29 Lake Shore Drive, Robert Dymon, James Kingston 22 Lake Shore Drive, Mike Wrona 26 Lake Shore Drive, Gene Lord 20 Lake Shore Drive, Lorraine and William Cromack 32 Lake Shore Drive, Glenn Anschutz 30 Old Acres Road, Gary Powers 36 Lake Shore Drive, Andrea Petronic, Stephen Petronic.

Michael Colavecchio was the primary spokesperson for Mr. Romano. He stated that Mr. Romano was the general contractor on his own. Jeff Blaschke was the carpenter/builder. It was assumed that the shed was a detached structure and did not need a permit. There was also no permit taken for either the deck or connecting stairwell at that time. Accessory building construction rules both past and present were discussed. Sarto pointed out that setback requirements must be applied, and that over the years requirements and enforcement have become more strict. It was noted that the safety of residents in the upstairs loft was a reason for the door and stairs. The shed was also needed to store toys and beach items used by the family. The owners, their four children's families and
friends all use the house on a regular basis during the summer.  Abutters opposing the construction noted that the shed was built along the property line, the shed was unsightly and interfered with their view of the lake, property values would decrease because of the additions, and they would experience a loss of privacy because people on the stairwell would be looking down on their deck area. They also commented that "most houses on the lake" don't have second floor egress.  A site visitation was scheduled for Sept. 12 at 10 AM. A continuance was scheduled for Sept. 18 at 8 PM.
